BYU Maintenance

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Today, as I was getting ready for class, I heard a knock at my apartment door. I opened the door to find two girls wearing the well-known blue maintenance worker vests. I knew immediately why they'd come, and I was glad that they had.

A short while before the beginning of winter semester, our oven had developed a mind of it's own, and had refused to heat up anymore. And in the midst of Christmas Goodie Baking, too! Gone were our hopes of lavish Christmas Cakes and other morsels that we had planned to bake in the oven. It would have been a disaster if our kind neighbors hadn't let us borrow their oven when we needed one.

Needless to say, when the maintenance workers announced to me that they had come to fix our oven, I let them in without hesitation. Less than an hour after they had arrived, our oven was up and running properly again.

As a person who is not mechanically inclined at all, I am glad that I did not have to be the one to reboot our oven! I'm glad that the maintenance crew on BYU campus exists. They do so many jobs that make life easier for dorm dwellers, from fixing creaky door hinges and unclogging shower drains, to shoveling snow off the sidewalks and installing new refrigerator doors. I'm so glad that we're not completely alone in keeping our apartments spic and span.

Maintenance crew… We Love You!
