The Book of Mormon

Monday, January 31, 2011

To put it simply, I'm really, really thankful for this book.

It's almost cliche to walk up to the pulpit in sacrament meeting and hear someone say, "I know that the Book of Mormon is true". Even so, those people who have studied its pages intensively, "feasting" on the words they say (not just nibbling), and praying for inspiration as they read really do know the truth that this amazing record holds.

It's amazing that the Book of Mormon has withstood all the things that it has been put through during its history. The descendants of Nephi had to painstakingly carve their words into the records made of gold plates. They had to guard the plates, making sure that they did not fall into the wrong hands. They had to have spiritual guidance in order to ensure that the things that we as latter-day saints really needed to hear made it onto the plates. Then, after the Book of Mormon was translated, it began to be attacked. Countless people have tried to "disprove" the Book of Mormon, ripping it apart, trying to find reasons that it cannot be true. This record has withstood almost two hundred years of such scrutiny.

My bishop is always telling us how reading the Book of Mormon every day will make us a happier person. He's right! When I take the time to read the Book of Mormon, I find that my day is easier, whatever load is on my shoulders is lighter, and I'm much happier. I can get information from the Book of Mormon that helps me through a hard day, or assists me with a difficult decision.

I feel so blessed to have this "Most Correct Book" in my life. I wish that every person in the world could know the power it holds and the comfort it brings in time of need.

Moroni 10:4--"And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost."

YouTube

Saturday, January 29, 2011

Ah, youtube. Where do I begin? I can't even start to count the funny memories and inside jokes I have associated with this website. What genius invented youtube videos? Because that's exactly what they are--a genius.

Obviously, I love youtube for it's entertainment purposes. From Glozell to the Backin' Up Song, I just get loads of entertainment from that place. I can quote almost endlessly from YouTube (Yes, I have no life, I know.) But seriously, some of the best inside jokes that my friends and I have are from there.

When I've been in the depths of boredom, movies on youtube have saved my day! I love being able to watch some of my favorite movies on the website. Waiting long hours for a flight seems a little less long when you've got youtube movies handy. :)

Boy, am I glad that YouTube exists!

BYU Men's Basketball

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

I feel like it might be a bit blasphemous if I didn't express my gratitude for BYU Men's Basketball on this day of all days. So here goes.

I'm so glad that the BYU men's basketball team has had such a great season so far. The fact that we can excel at athletics, as well as academics, makes my school pride go up more than a couple notches. I love watching our team play and defy the odds--like they did tonight.

When I went to the Wilk today with some friends to watch the game against SDSU, I was a bit nervous about the outcome. What if we lost? What if the game went totally downhill, and all those people that stood in line for bracelets did it for nothing? I really shouldn't have worried. Our boys played their best, and made me--us--proud.

I wonder sometimes if people will ever stop ranting and raving about Jimmer. He's going above and beyond.

BYU men's basketball--great game tonight! You make us proud.

My Wonderful FHE Family

Monday, January 24, 2011

The turnout of my FHE family has probably landed it near the top of my "gratefulness" list. At the beginning of Fall Semester, we were a bit awkward around each other, not really knowing what to say to each other. Now, however, we're a close-knit group, with camaraderie, memories, and inside jokes to show for it.

I love every member of my FHE family so much. Everyone in the family has something to contribute and participates in the fun activities that we do together. I remember writing letters to our FHE brothers with my roommates before thanksgiving break. We had so much fun talking and laughing about the fun memories that we had had with each of our brothers as we wrote to them. I love how everyone in my family has a place--it wouldn't be quite the same with anyone missing (and isn't the same with two of our boys on missions--I miss them so much!) Our family is so organized that we even have a birth order (in which I am the youngest child--how I got that distinction, I'll never know.)

Some of my favorite memories of BYU have come out of FHE.
From funny moments during our first FHE together playing games ("witch"), to watching my FHE brother charge through the Duck Pond during a game of Capture the Flag, to passing a Sunny D bottle full of leftovers around the table and being caught on video screeching, to disputing the number of light balls in a Christmas light display during a scavenger hunt (29 or 30? We'll never agree), I'm never going to forget the fun times we've had together.

By far one of my favorite memories from FHE comes from our epic PRANK WAR. It started out with us giving our brothers beef in fortune cookies, and built up slowly and surely until it came to a head on the night before halloween. My roommates came home from the stake halloween dance to discover that our kitchen had been filled, from floor to ceiling, with crumpled NEWSPAPER. I remember not knowing how to react, except by beginning to scream my head off! It was quite a night, and one where I was proud to be a part of the FHE family that I was from.

The other day, one of our brothers was over at our apartment. He had come over just to hang out and talk with us. He told us how glad he was to be a part of our family and what awesome sisters he felt he had. I want my brothers to know that I'm so glad that they are my brothers, and my family to know that I really love and appreciate them. You guys are wonderful!

My Guitar

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Music is an awesome thing. Who can imagine a world without it? It's so beautiful, and just lets people express themselves in ways that just plain words can't. Yes, music is wonderful. But there's something better--the ability to MAKE music.

That's why I was so excited to get my very own guitar this weekend. I've wanted a guitar for awhile, so that I could learn to play it and eventually write my own songs.

My guitar has a unique history. My dad started building it at a guitar shop in Provo even before I was born. He married my mom, they started our family, and a few years later we moved to Portland, so it never got finished. Fast forward about 20 years later and I'm studying in the HFAC for finals. Knowing that I want a guitar, my dad sends me a text asking if I would be interested in having his guitar that he began making so many years earlier. Of course I said yes.

Two saturdays ago I went up to the guitar shop and got to see the finished instrument. (It still needed a little bit of fine-tuning.) It was so beautiful and obviously carefully crafted. I liked it right away. The next weekend, I was finally able to bring it home.

Tonight my roommates, my FHE brother, and I all had dinner at my apartment. While we waited for dinner to be served, I brought out my guitar. My FHE brother picked it up, and after we asked him if he knew any songs, he just started strumming. That's a great thing about the guitar--you can just pick it up and start playing. No special prep necessary.

Needless to say, I can't wait to begin learning to play this beautiful instrument. My life just keeps getting better. :)

Pizookies

Saturday, January 22, 2011

Have you ever heard of an odd food combination, tried it, and loved it? I'm pretty sure that most everyone has. Tonight I tried one such seemingly odd combination.

Pizookies. Here's the deal--you take a mound of cookie dough, flatten it in a pie pan, stick it in the oven, bake it until it's almost completely baked through, take it out, scoop gobs of ice cream on top of it, and eat it with a spoon. The method is unorthodox… but the food is delicious.

It's like the way that Peanut Butter and Jelly go so well together. Almost-baked cookie dough and Ice Cream go together even better.

Being able to partake of this amazing delicacy was definitely a blessing. What a treat. :)

Wireless Internet

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Having to use an ethernet cable to get on the internet is like having to use a phone with a cord. It's a bit irritating and it ropes you down in one place--which can get annoying. Me, I like to be a free spirit and use my computer outside my dorm room--in my kitchen, out in the lobby, and maybe even outside if it's nice enough. Today I acted on my free-spirit studying tendencies and decided that it was time to get a wireless router.

It was quick and fairly simple to start up. It began working almost as soon as I had gotten it running. And it not only blesses me, but it also blesses the lives of all my roommates! They're thankful for the fact that I got a router as much as I am--as shown by this lovely facebook post by my roommate:

It was great to see four of us in the kitchen, lounging around on our laptops doing homework, not confined to our bedrooms to do it. I guess money can buy freedom… in some ways.  :)

People who Listen

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

Before this evening, I thought I was going to end up writing this blog post about one of the small joys of life. Like flannel shirts, for instance, or fruit snacks, or wireless internet. (All of which I'm grateful for, don't get me wrong.) But for reasons I'm not going to delve into, I feel like I really need to express gratitude today for the people in my life who truly care to listen to me when I need it the most.

Have you ever had an experience where you're just overwhelmed with your own feelings, like your heart has turned into a giant bag of rocks? If you have, you probably also know how good it feels to sit down with someone, tell them what's on your mind, and discuss it with them, and know that you're not completely alone. It's such sweet relief to know that you don't have to go through what you're going through alone.

You can't handle everything on your own. It's a hard fact of life. That's part of the reason why we're supposed to interact with other people--to pull each other through the hard times.

People who listen--I love you, and I am so grateful that you are in my life. I honestly don't know what I would do without you.

(Want a boost? Listen to the song ^ )

I love you!

Hot Chocolate

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

I guess I'm a typical, stereotyped, baffled college student at the moment. Tonight is one of those nights where I'm pretty much swamped in homework. Swamped.

I sat down at my kitchen table this evening, determined to do a few calculus assignments before bed. My eyelids beginning to droop, I decided that I needed something enticing to help me stay up and finish this daunting task.

I walked to my kitchen cabinet to see if I had anything that would. Instantly my eyes hit upon this:

Sweet relief! My sweet roommate had given me this mug, along with several hot chocolate packets, around Christmastime. Here was my antidote to falling dead asleep at the kitchen table while doing homework.

A Steaming Mug of Hot Chocolate = MY ANTI-SLEEP.

And the words on the packet about Warm Choclatey Memories are absolute truth. Just so you know. ;)

Calculators

Monday, January 17, 2011

MLK day was a carefree, fun-filled day for many people at BYU. Some of my friends ventured to their Utah homes, some hit the ski slopes, and some others bedazzled themselves and went to prime parties. But not me.

I, who had just added a new section of Calculus to my schedule, had some make-up work to do. LOTS of it. Being a grade-conscious student, I sat myself down and did Calculus homework during my day off of school.

I wandered over to the library, backpack in tow, with everything I thought I would need. Textbook? Check. Scratch Paper? Check. Laptop? Check. TI-89 Calculator? CHECK.

I rode the elevator up to the fourth floor, found a table, and spread my array of calculus essentials on the wooden tabletop. All settled, I began working. Everything was going well until I reached for my calculator and pushed the "on" button.

Lo and behold, my calculator had run out of batteries. Disastrous? Yes. Thank goodness my laptop had a calculator built right in.

They're on computers, they're on cellphones, they're even on i-pods.
Calculators are devices that help us through life nowadays. From simple add-and-subtract, to natural logarithms and limits, they make calculations (and calculus) easier. Imagine if we didn't have calculators to help us with sums. There would be a lot more time--and pencil--that would go to waste.

I'm thankful for calculators. (And for an amazing friend who photocopied the calculus homework schedule for me this evening. You know who you are. :) )

How am I so blessed?

Card Games

Sunday, January 16, 2011

Today, around the dinner hour, my roommates and I were hunkered around the dinner table with nothing to do. Then we had an idea. We brought out one of these little beauties:

A deck of cards. That's right. Now the fun was REALLY about to begin.

We began our epic game night by playing a game of Mao. I had never played it before, but I can assure you that it is one of the funnest games I have yet played. Mao is like Uno, except there are certain rules that go along with playing the game. For example, if you put down a diamond on the discard pile, you have to say, "Look at those sparkly diamonds!" If you fail to remember a rule, you have to draw a card. The person who gets rid of all their cards first gets to make up a new rule, which the other players figure out as they play.

You can imagine what this all led to--all sorts of hilarious new "rules", like having to shout "Narwhal!" after putting down a black card with an even number, or having to say "Ooh La La!" after putting down the same number or face as the card that was previously played.

One deck = one night full of unforgettable memories. What more could one ask for?

Sammy's

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Picture this: Five hungry girls pile into a big red car at around 5 pm. Where is it that they could be going? To a party? To FatCats for some fun bowling? To Wendy's for some fries?

Nope, none of these guesses would be correct. But that's okay, because they're going somewhere BETTER than all three of them.

Their Ultimate Destination? SAMMY'S.

For those unfamiliar with this downtown Provo commodity, Sammy's is a cute, unique little restaurant with great food. When I went there this afternoon with my roommates, I wanted to try something relatively new to me. I ordered a Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich (which I had never had before) off the menu. It was nothing short of DELICIOUS.

If the food at Sammy's is good, their shakes are even better. I don't know of many other places that sell shakes with ground-up pieces of pie in them, but I don't think that there are that many. And they taste amazing! Oreo Cookie Pie Shakes = by far among the best things I have ever tasted.

Need I say that I'm so glad that Sammy's exists? What a place.

Letters from Missionaries

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Getting letters is something to celebrate. The fact that someone took the time and energy to sit down, take out a pen, and compose a message especially for you is such a compliment! I love it when people write me letters, no matter who or where from. But the best letters so far? Definitely letters from missionaries.

I have many friends who left after fall term to go on missions. I miss them all a lot, but I know that I can still keep in touch with them through letter-writing. Letters are really the way that missionaries stay connected with the non-mission world--all the news from family and friends that they receive is through letters! I'm glad that I can keep my friends informed about life at the Y.

Today, I got a letter from one of my friends who is currently in the MTC. I had written him a poem telling him about how things were going and asking how MTC life was. To my great delight, he sent me a poem in response! It made my day. It's a letter that I'm going to keep for a long time, if not forever--It was pretty much the greatest thing ever! Letters from Missionaries = LOVE.

Comfy Chairs

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

I have a special friend named Gregory. He is a great friend--I study with him, hang out with him, take naps with him. He's mine and my roommates' constant companion--in fact, he never leaves our kitchen. He's so comfortable, we all love him.

Yep, Gregory is our favorite, comfy couch in our kitchen. He may be a little rough and a little staticky, but we love him nonetheless.

I love comfy chairs! Today I was wandering the JKB before class, trying to find a place to study. I wandered up to the fourth floor, an what should I find but two cushioned booths, inviting me to study in comfort. Which I did, quite happily.

You might say I live in comfy chairs. During Fall Semester, I would often go to the library, venture down to periodicals, find one of those big leather chairs, plop down into it, and take a much-deserved nap.

I mean, who wouldn't love to nap on this?

Comfy chairs also come with warm memories. I will never forget the time I walked into the kitchen to see two of my roommates curled up on Gregory like a yin-yang. And the time when four of us made a "human jenga" on Gregory.

No doubt about it, comfy chairs are amazing!

Cellphones

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

They say you never know a good thing till it's gone. This, I found today, is one of the truest of true statements. Here's why: Yesterday, the USB connector on my cellphone's charger decided to break off from the whole, meaning that I can no longer charge my phone. A short while later, my phone ran out of batteries.

Which means, of course, that my phone is dead. Dead as a doornail. And that it will remain so until my parents ship me my charger from home.

It's kind of sad to admit this, but I feel handicapped without my phone. My phone lets me send text messages, wakes me up in the morning, and has games for me to play when I need to kill a few minutes. So many different wonderful operations in something that can fit in my palm.

Today, for Comms 101, we talked about the development of mass communications through the ages. The phone was the first device that allowed people to have real-time conversations without being face-to-face. They made communications across long distances lots quicker and easier. And with cellphones, calls can now be made anywhere. With normal telephones, you need to be in a certain place in order to use it. But not cellphones. Makes communication that much easier.

If ALL Human History were just ONE CALENDAR YEAR, and NOW were midnight on December 31st, The telephone would have appeared for the FIRST TIME on December the 31st at 9 am. Cellphones would have FIRST appeared on December 31st at 11:58 pm.

Amazing, huh?

How did I get so lucky to be born at a time when such a thing as cellphones were made available? I have no idea.

Cupcakes

Monday, January 10, 2011

Today, I woke up early. And it wasn't to study, or to go jogging, or to get to class in a timely fashion. It was for a better purpose than that.

Yep, you guessed it--I woke up early for the sole purpose of making cupcakes. I made them in honor of the BCS game in which my home state's team, the University of Oregon Ducks, was playing. And I regret nothing.

Thing number one that I love about cupcakes--they just smell good! Not long after I began the baking process, the kitchen filled with the delicious aroma of Yellow Cake. A few of my roommates came home from class, opened the door, took a whiff, and exclaimed, "wow, it smells good in here!" Definitely an upside.

Thing number two--you don't have to cut pieces, as for cake. You can just take one neatly frosted one and be satisfied in two or three bites. No knife necessary.

Thing number three--they almost ALWAYS taste good, in addition smelling good. I was amazed at how well the cupcakes I made turned out. It was divine. They were gobbled up more quickly than I expected them to be. Even though the designs on top of some of them were a little disappointing, they were still winners.

Thing number four--you can decorate them in all sorts of creative ways. I mean, look at the cute little guy up above. Need I say more?

Thing number five-- THIS. So Adorable.

Who invented cupcakes? I just want to give them a giant bear hug. I love these delicacies :) So, cupcake inventor… thank you, thank you, whoever you are!

Rules

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Yes, I'm thankful for rules. A lot of people would say that it's strange to be thankful for rules because rules chain you up and keep you from being as free as you could be. But rules have done the opposite for me.

Today in Sunday School, my teacher told us about how when she was younger, she would complain about all the rules that the church had in place. She would complain to her dad about how the rules restricted her, and how they kept her from having as much fun as other people around her. Her dad would tell her that the rules were there to give her more freedom in the end. She told us how she was glad, now, that those rules had been kept, and how thankful she was that she had kept them and was now freer than her friends who had become slaves to things like drugs and alcohol.

I, too, have had this experience. In Middle and High School, I was always a complainer when it came to rules. I wanted to have fun like the other kids in my class, the kind of fun that it seemed like all the coolest people were a part of. But my family and friends in my ward were there to remind me that life could still be fun without that kind of fun. They helped me remember that the rules would make me happier in the end.

Yesterday, I was facebook stalking some of my high-school classmates (Yes, I admit it… I facebook stalk). There were lots of pictures of my old classmates doing things that would never be acceptable to the "honor code police". There were more than just a few pictures of one or more of my classmates holding a gigantic bottle of alcohol in one hand, doing the thumbs up with the other, and grinning. Their pictures had the inferred caption, "life is short, so party hard".

They look pretty happy with themselves in their pictures. But looks can be deceiving. Are they really happy people?

I can't help but wonder, what will their lives be like in five, ten, twenty years? Do they know the impact that these choices they're making now will have on their future? I wish they knew what I knew.

People are like kites. They can truly fly when they're attached by a string. But once the string is cut, the kite stops flying, and instead starts spiraling down, down, down.  We need the string--the rules--because they help us reach our fullest potential. And for this, I am thankful.

Heritage Halls

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Today, I took a little trip out-of-doors with my roommates to look at housing for next year. We went around to different housing areas south of the BYU campus. Thinking that we aren't going to be living in Heritage next year is a scary prospect, and we want to be prepared for the next year up ahead of us.

I'm seriously going to miss the dorms so much next year! Heritage Halls has made my freshman year what it is. I remember coming home from school early in order to pick out my housing right at my priority time. Seeing the floor plan of the rooms after I chose them, and the names and email addresses of my future roommates. Finding my roommates on facebook, and sending them messages back and forth (I read them sometimes. They make me laugh. To think that there was a time when we didn't know each other…)

I remember my summer roommate sending me a picture of our bedroom, telling me how roomy it was, and telling me that we would have an awesome time together. Being the last summer roommate to arrive, meeting my roommates for the first time, liking them immediately. Working on the laptop in the kitchen, tripping over the ethernet cord (which I still have a bruise from). Creeping on EFY kids outside our window. Kicking my poor roommate in the shin for asking me a question (I'm never going to live that down). Taking walks through Heritage with friends.

Chapter 2--I move from Bowen, to Whitney. I remember spending the first night by myself and wanting to cry. Coming back from FOL and meeting my current roommates for the first time. Scone breakfasts in the kitchen. Naming the furniture (including the front door). Hanging seasonal decorations from the ceiling. Witnessing the flooding of Heritage Halls firsthand with my little sisters. Coming back from a dance to find our kitchen filled top to bottom with crumpled-up newspaper. Weekly girl talk in the kitchen featuring one of our favorite guys ever.

I remember missing good old Heritage like an old friend during Christmas Break. Walking into the kitchen to see a sign on the table saying, "I'm so glad you made it back safe and alive!". Nearly tackling my roommate when she came in carrying grocery bags. Being happy to be back.

I've met a lot of my best friends and made a lot of my favorite memories here in the dorms. And I know I'm not the only person that's done that. I wonder sometimes about the girls who lived here all the years before I came. How many memories go with my bedroom, my kitchen, my apartment? Probably more than any mortal can count.

That's not even counting all the memories that go with all of Heritage. Think about it--how many memories have been made at Heritage? Numberless memories.

I can almost say that I've never loved a single place as much as I love Heritage Halls. I love living here and I'll always remember the amazing times that I've had here.

Surprising People

Friday, January 7, 2011

Early this week, many of my friends from BYU traveled back to Provo to continue their schooling during Winter Semester. Most arrived on campus before Tuesday Morning, so that they could begin attending classes that day. However, one of my dear friends from my ward was not able to join us for the first week of classes due to a bout of pneumonia which her doctor told her could infect everyone on the plane by the time the flight was over should she fly. Because of this she had to wait until Friday Afternoon to reenter the Provo Bubble.

One night, before she flew in, I was killing time at her roommates' apartment, watching silly GloZell videos with them and their FHE brothers. We started talking about when she would get to Provo, and decided that we would all go up to the airport and surprise her. A plan was in motion.

This afternoon, we all piled into the famous "creeper van" and headed up to Salt Lake. We headed up to the airport terminal, dropped one friend (who was supposed to be the only one there to pick up our friend) off, circled through the terminal until she texted us "Get Ready", then jumped out and unrolled a sign welcoming our friend home.

I remember seeing her walk out. Her face just lit up when she saw us standing there. It was such an awesome thing to see. She told us, "This is the best day ever". I'm so glad I was able to help make her day amazing.

Morning Walks

Thursday, January 6, 2011

This semester, I rearranged my schedule so that all my classes are in the afternoon. I did this so that I could find a morning job--still working on that. But even while I'm searching, I've decided that I'm going to use my mornings wisely. Which means, no sleeping in till 11 am.

With that goal in mind, I woke up today and took a walk to the temple. It was a chilly, but sunny morning. There wasn't much commotion--everything was peaceful, and everything was covered with a blanket of sparkling snow. It was nothing short of beautiful.

Have you ever noticed how beautiful and fresh everything seems in the morning? There's  just this feeling of serenity that can't be duplicated. It gives you space to think. That's why I love taking morning walks--they refresh me. For the rest of the day I felt calmer and was more carefree than I normally do, and I don't doubt that being outdoors right after a glorious sunrise had something to do with it.

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy my morning this way, and I'm definitely going to do it more from now on. As far as I'm concerned, opportunities that give good feelings should be done as much as possible.

BYU Maintenance

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Today, as I was getting ready for class, I heard a knock at my apartment door. I opened the door to find two girls wearing the well-known blue maintenance worker vests. I knew immediately why they'd come, and I was glad that they had.

A short while before the beginning of winter semester, our oven had developed a mind of it's own, and had refused to heat up anymore. And in the midst of Christmas Goodie Baking, too! Gone were our hopes of lavish Christmas Cakes and other morsels that we had planned to bake in the oven. It would have been a disaster if our kind neighbors hadn't let us borrow their oven when we needed one.

Needless to say, when the maintenance workers announced to me that they had come to fix our oven, I let them in without hesitation. Less than an hour after they had arrived, our oven was up and running properly again.

As a person who is not mechanically inclined at all, I am glad that I did not have to be the one to reboot our oven! I'm glad that the maintenance crew on BYU campus exists. They do so many jobs that make life easier for dorm dwellers, from fixing creaky door hinges and unclogging shower drains, to shoveling snow off the sidewalks and installing new refrigerator doors. I'm so glad that we're not completely alone in keeping our apartments spic and span.

Maintenance crew… We Love You!

My Friendship with My Roommates

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

This is my first "real" gratitude post. I decided that the best way to begin this daily thankfulness journey, I should start with something that I'm really, really, REALLY grateful for. And the great thing was, I didn't have to think too hard about it. At all.

Why, you ask? As I posted recently in a facebook note listing the greatest lessons I've learned during my first couple semesters: "Your roommates are a built-in support system who are there to love, listen, and give advice". The girls that I room with now, and the girls that I roomed with in the summer, have become my best friends. No, scratch that. They've become my sisters. I love and appreciate everything they are and what they contribute to my life so much, and I want the best for each and every one of them.

I'm amazed that I've been blessed with such great roommates. I have talked to people from other rooms who are less than happy with the roommates they have for one reason or another. My story? I couldn't be happier with my summer and current roommates. They're fun and upbeat, they're patient with me (miracle right there), they listen and offer sincere advice, and they bring a good spirit wherever they go. And the great thing is, I live (or used to live) with them! I'm around these girls practically 24/7. With these girls around me all the time, how can I help but become a better person?

Over Christmas break, I bought this necklace for each of my roommates. I made each one a little card in which I stuck the necklace, and gave them out last night after we had all returned to our apartment. After my last class today, I came home to find all five of my roommates lounging in the kitchen. I looked around the room and noticed that each one of them was wearing the necklace that I had gotten them. It made me happier than I had been during my entire Christmas Break.

Roommates, old and new, if you're reading this, I want you to know… I'm glad that you are in my life, and I LOVE YOU!
